The most effective way to save the world.

Join the growing movement to support a global shift of farm and rangeland into certified regenerative agriculture.

Every acre counts.

How Big is 1 Billion Acres?

Total global land mass is approximately 37 billion acres.
Of that, about one third, or 12 billion acres, is used for agricultural production.
1 Billion Acres, equivalent to ~405 million hectares, is roughly half of the size of the United States or Brazil, or nearly the size of India.

Every Bite Counts.

The truth is that our planet is changing, and we need to make some changes, too. With thousands of years of testing and data behind it, regenerative agriculture is the most effective technology we have to save our planet.
Globally, this work is already underway, led by farmers, ranchers, scientists. But they need our help. An effort this big requires a groundswell of support. Join the growing movement of solution-driven leaders across the world, and take the One Billion Acres pledge.
No action is too small. The pledge is open to all individuals; and all companies with agricultural supply chains.
Every acre and every bite counts. Join the Groundswell.

Why Certified Regenerative?

The six principles of regenerative agriculture utilizes Indigenous wisdom, holistic management, and cutting edge science to regenerate living ecosystems.
By restoring carbon, water, and nutrient cycles, regenerative agriculture enhances soil health, water and air quality, and improves biodiversity, resilience, and economic outcomes.

Certification Criteria

Each regenerative certification and verification varies, but those we align with have been selected based on the following minimum criteria:

1. Building healthy soil as a primary goal;

2. Requiring that more than one practice be implemented to improve the physical, chemical, and biological condition of the soil and minimize soil erosion;

3. Producers are encouraged to minimize or completely eliminate chemical inputs;

4. Farms are inspected and/or soil health outcome measurements are taken.

Certifications and verifiers include, but are not limited to: Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC), Land to Market, Regenified, Enveritas, Rainforest Alliance, Regenagri, Soil & Climate Initiative.

One Billion Acres: Standards & Transparency

The principles of regenerative agriculture are deeply rooted in Indigenous land stewardship practices.

Today, there are many small-scale practitioners of regenerative agriculture who are not yet certified and we applaud their work. However, in order to uphold a rigorous standard for this campaign, we have elected to only count acres that are certified or verified via recognized partners.

Our hope is that companies and brands that take the step toward certification can lead others toward true, transparent regenerative agriculture and away from “regen-washing.”

*All brands taking the pledge are required to work with an approved certifier or verifier to show regeneration within their supply chains.

Every Cup Counts.

Nespresso works hand-in-hand with farmers, providing free training and technical assistance in sustainable and regenerative practices, empowering them to improve the quality of their coffee and the productivity of their farm. Not only can this help farmers to grow their income, but protect their land and coffee for future generations through practices such as planting trees, nurturing healthy soil, and promoting biodiversity. ‘Groundswell’ Documentary

From the makers of Kiss the Ground and Common Ground, Groundswell is the final film in the soil trilogy. It takes a journey around the world to show the three biggest (and interrelated) problems our species face – climate change, species loss and soil loss – and how farmers, ranchers, scientists, change-makers and Indigenous leaders are utilizing regenerative agriculture to address and even reverse these trends on an ecosystem-by-ecosystem basis, to restore the planet one acre at a time.

Grasslands are breathing again. Rivers are running clean. Species are returning. Carbon is being drawn deep into the earth. Yields are climbing as soil comes back to life. A groundswell of hope and a living blueprint for global renewal.
